Sovereign Immunity
Corruption, Cover Up, and One Man's Quest for Justice_____________________________
Since November 2005, the FBI
has been investigating PRIDE
and the Florida Department of
Corrections.
Food safety has been mentioned as a target of terrorists, but what if the meat industry has already been
compromised from the inside? Contaminated meat now sits on supermarket shelves across America—and possibly on
your dinner table. Meanwhile, the perpetrators have declared, “Sovereign immunity.”

Sovereign Immunity: Corruption, Cover up, and One Man’s Quest for Justice is the true story of entrepreneur Larry
Stone and the system that destroyed him. In 2002, Larry agreed to have meat processed and distributed by PRIDE,
Prison Rehabilitative Industries and Diversified Enterprises, an instrument of the State of Florida and the Florida
Department of Corrections. Two years into their joint venture, managers at PRIDE illegally seized Larry’s equipment
and goods, and drove him to the brink of bankruptcy.

Larry’s efforts to save his company revealed malfeasance and the shocking truth that PRIDE’s warehouse was
infested with rats, rat fecal matter, and roaches. Worse, records showed that PRIDE was shipping tainted meat across
the United States and abroad. Customers included public schools; federal and state prisons; hospitals; mental health
facilities; food banks; and national supermarket chains such as Publix, Winn Dixie, Piggly Wiggly, Bruno’s, and
SuperValu. When Larry blew the whistle, PRIDE’s attorney invoked sovereign immunity and the USDA conspired with
them to cover up the scandal.
